About Us
The origin of Visvo was a thought by Srik Soogoor in March 2004 when he looked at notes of items to be bought attached to his sister's refrigerator. At the time Srik was Founder & CEO of InventX, Inc, a Project and Portfolio management software company. Srik wondered how this information could be put into a usable form for retailers such as JC Penney, Walmart, Tom Thumb and others. After a few sessions with local Dallas retailers, Srik learned that a search engine is the right platform and that none of the current search engines could or would address this need to consolidate user needs and appeal to customer specific needs. Srik joined up with Pat McGinty, a colleague at InventX to pursue further work on the search engine concept. Srik had known Pat since 2000 when he was the first customer of InventX while at Texas Instruments.
Through a number of meetings in 2004 and 2005 throughout the Dallas area with a variety of companies such as JC Penney, Tuesday Morning, Zales, and Raytheon, the Visvo personalization concepts were further developed and refined for general application to the Web. Potential customers were excited about the personalization concept and how it would improve search results. The design continued to evolve and broaden in scope and a prototype was unveiled in December 2005.
In December 2005, InventX was acquired by Cranes Software International Ltd (BSE: CRANES), (www.cranessoftware.com) a Bangalore, India based company. Srik and Pat left Cranes Software and began to actively pursue the search engine project. The prototype was presented to Dr. Vasu Rangadass, a Founding Engineer of i2 Technologies (NASDAQ: ITWO), who had recently started his own medical services software company (www.netdotorange.com), and he understood the vision and he became the Founding Investor apart from Srik and Pat.
Visvo Inc. was incorporated in January 2006. Dennis Kubes was selected as CTO and joined in March 2006. Dennis has a strong and diverse background in software development. Dennis immediately began work with a goal of achieving a commercial version of the search engine to be called Visvo, the Sanskrit word for Universe. Additional software developers from the University of Texas at Dallas joined the team and serious development focused on Visvo's unique Distributed File System, Mapping and Classification system.
The concept of automatic categorization emerged as the leading value differentiator for Visvo. Meetings with potential customers continued throughout the summer and fall. Some potential customers were quite impressed and were eager to see a production ready version. Visvo continues to meet with these potential customers on a regular basis.
Dr. Pallab Chatterjee, Executive Vice President of i2 Technologies and formerly CIO of Texas Instruments, joined the Company's Board in August 2006 to facilitate funding and launching in India
In June 2007 Visvo Alpha search engine platform has been launched.
